France Launches Emergency Support to Counter Energy Price Volatility
The initiative focuses on transport, agriculture, and fishing, with officials noting that the measures are essential to preserve France’s “food sovereignty” and maintain the smooth functioning of the national economy.
Under the plan, small and medium-sized road transport companies will receive €50 million in support, translating to a flat-rate payment of €0.20 per liter of fuel. Farmers are granted a temporary exemption from agricultural diesel taxes for the month, while the fishing industry is allocated €5 million to offset fuel costs, which currently account for roughly 35% of operational expenses.
The government is also offering a broader “financial cushion” for struggling businesses, including deferred social security and tax payments without penalties and “Boost Fuels” loans of up to €50,000 for the smallest firms. These sector-specific measures are slated to remain in effect through April 2026.
The announcement comes amid nearly a month of US-Israeli air operations against Iran, which have claimed more than 1,340 lives, including Iran’s Supreme Leader at the time, Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
