EU Commissioner Urges Swift Humanitarian Aid Delivery to Gaza
"We need humanitarian aid to flood Gaza, not enter drop by drop, because the needs are immense and winter is coming," Lahbib told reporters ahead of the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels.
Lahbib described her experience at the Rafah border crossing two weeks prior, where she was barred from entering Gaza despite witnessing hundreds of supply-laden trucks awaiting passage.
"The humanitarian workers I met there were frustrated and exhausted by the situation," she said, calling it "a lot of administrative burden."
Living conditions in Gaza remain dire despite a ceasefire implemented October 10, as Israel maintains severe limitations on aid truck entry—actions that contravene the humanitarian provisions outlined in the truce agreement.
Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in nearly 70,700 deaths, predominantly women and children, with over 171,100 additional injuries since October 2023, with hostilities persisting even after the ceasefire took effect.
