Moscow’s SVR Accuses Britain of Plotting New Provocation
According to the SVR, UK intelligence agencies are allegedly preparing a group of Russian nationals currently fighting alongside Ukrainian forces to carry out an act of sabotage.
In the detailed statement released on Monday, the SVR alleged that these individuals have been tasked with attacking either a Ukrainian naval vessel or a foreign civilian ship located in a European port.
The intention, the agency claims, is for Britain to then publicly blame Moscow for the staged assault, effectively framing Russia for an incident it did not commit.
Furthermore, the Russian agency accused the UK of planning to leave behind Chinese-manufactured underwater equipment at the scene of the sabotage.
This gear would subsequently be showcased as fabricated “proof” of Beijing’s alleged backing of Moscow, an attempt to implicate China in the conflict and escalate tensions further.
The SVR insists that London hopes to exploit the scenario by encouraging “Russophobic” factions within Europe to adopt this “fake” account as a pretext for amplifying military support for Ukraine and intensifying defense measures against Russia. Such a maneuver, they argue, serves to deepen Europe’s involvement in the conflict under misleading pretenses.
Russian officials continue to regard the UK as one of the most antagonistic nations in the Western alliance. Diplomatic ties between the two nations have deteriorated significantly since the Ukraine conflict intensified in 2022.
In response to the war, Britain has enacted several waves of sanctions targeting Russian financial institutions, energy exports, and prominent individuals.
Additionally, British support for Ukraine has expanded to include the provision of long-range Storm Shadow missiles and the training of Ukrainian troops.
